The Fixed Gear Creed

This is my bicycle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My bicycle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

Without me, my bicycle is useless. Without my bicycle, I am useless. I must ride my bicycle true. I must pedal faster than my enemy who is trying to beat me. I must beat him before he beats me.

My bicycle and I know that what counts on the road is not the kit we wear, the depth of the wheels, nor the price of the bicycle. We know that it is the pedaling that counts.

My bicycle is human, even as I [am human], because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its geometry and its position. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my bicycle clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before God, I swear this creed. My bicycle and I are the outlaws of the road. We are the masters of the streets. We are the tune of traffic.

So be it, until all roads have been explored, we will ride.
